How Stanton Chase widened the brief to bring Eurobank a technology-focused Non-Executive Director

>The Background
Why Eurobank Needed a New Technology-Focused Board Director

Eurobank S.A. is a Greek systemic bank with operations in Greece and abroad. After a review of the Board’s composition and effectiveness, the Nomination and Corporate Governance Committee engaged Stanton Chase Athens to run a Board Director executive search for a new Non-Executive Director with experience in technology and digital transformation.

The review identified opportunities to further strengthen the Board’s collective expertise in technology and digital transformation. The Committee sought a director who could complement the Board’s existing capabilities and contribute additional insight into technology investments and digital transformation initiatives, rather than simply replacing a departing member.

>The Challenge
A Rare Combination of Banking, Technology, and Diversity Requirements

The brief asked for a combination of senior-level criteria that few European directors meet: C-level technology leadership in digital transformation and IT strategy, prior experience in banking or financial services, board experience in a large, complex organization, and clear alignment with the Board’s diversity objectives.

As the search progressed, ongoing calibration of the candidate profile and market mapping helped ensure alignment between the Board’s strategic priorities, suitability requirements and the realities of the available talent pool. Certain elements of the search were further calibrated, while the core governance, suitability, and diversity objectives remained unchanged.

This was not just a talent question. Any consideration regarding the candidate profile had to be assessed against governance and regulatory expectations, alongside the priorities identified through Eurobank’s Board suitability and effectiveness review.

>The Solution
Adjusting the Brief in Conversation with the Committee

We worked closely with the Nomination and Corporate Governance Committee at Eurobank and maintained an open dialogue throughout the process regarding market availability and candidate fit.

Together, we broadened the search to include senior leaders with large-scale technology transformation experience from adjacent sectors, while maintaining full alignment with the Board’s suitability requirements, governance priorities and diversity objectives.

We also ensured that every step of the process remained consistent with board suitability requirements, regulatory expectations and the priorities arising from Eurobank’s effectiveness review.

>Feedback
A Successful Board Appointment in March 2026

The new Non-Executive Director was appointed in March 2026. The appointment further strengthened the Board’s collective expertise in technology and digital transformation, while also contributing additional international perspective and supporting the Board’s diversity objectives.

Stanton Chase worked closely with us throughout the process, bringing a strong understanding of our governance and suitability requirements. Through ongoing calibration of the search strategy and candidate profile, they helped us identify a Non-Executive Director whose experience, perspective and expertise complement the Board’s strategic priorities and who is already contributing meaningfully at Board level.
